Lately my hair looks & feels terrible!
My fine hair loses all volume, I've got major split ends and one day it's too oily the next day it's all frizzy and dry.
Since I'm getting my hair trimmed and fixed up next week, I have done some research on ways to keep your hair happy and healthy!
here's what I've discovered!
PRODUCTS
essentials:
- Boar Bristle Brush: helps distribute oils and will not cause split ends like plastic brush or combs!
- Tea tree oil: not for everyday use, but it will give you great smelling hair and protect your hair against lice; all it takes is a drop in your bottle of conditioner!
- Heat protection: If you regularly straighten, curl or blow-dry your hair you NEED a heat protector. Heat can cause the most damage to hair, even after your first use!
- switch up your shampoo&conditioner: If you stick to the same brand for too long, your favourites may begin to lose effectiveness. So try to choose a different bottle next time, it's time to change up your routine!
- no metal elastics: metal parts cause split ends when you're removing them or putting them in your hair.
HAIR DYES
Teenagers love experimenting with hair colour but drug store brands and permenant colouring can cause a lot of damage. Instead opt for HENNA HAIR DYE available at Lush, you can even watch the tutorial online!
FOODS TO TRY
good eating is essential to good hair! Intense dieting or constant change in diet can, and likely will, cause extreme damage to hair. This is probably why we all end up with gross split ends and frizzy hair in the summer: we don't eat enough fresh fruits, veggies or fish and we spend the winter months trying every diet to shed the post-Christmas weight!
Not all of you will enjoy fish but for those who do, salmon is highly recommended (for those with damaged hair) because of it's packed with omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B-12(essential for growth of hair, source 1) and iron(source 2) all help keep your hair strong and long {hair should have some stretch; extremely damaged hair will not}
a list of foods that help your hair:
- salmon
- dark green veggies
- beans
- nuts
- poultry
- eggs
- whole grains
- oysters
- low-fat dairy products
- carrots
Hair rinses are fun! They leave hair shiny and healthy, easy to brush.
Ginger & Sesame hair rinse: Helps circulation in scalp, eliminates dandruff and leaves your hair smelling great! Instructions: I often simply use Ginger tea or you could try: click!
Beer Hair Rinses: often recommended for pregnant women! It leaves your hair shiny, a great hair tonic. Only advice: choose a beer that has a lower alcohol content.
Cold hair rinse: Rinsing your hair with cold water(not icy) will lock in the moisture, great for those with flat, thin hair!

eating seaweed is really good for your hair. makes it shiny :)
ReplyDeletealso, i love to use a dry shampoo every other day. it gives it more body, keeps it from getting greasy while preserving the color. i haven't tried it but i saw suave is making an inexpensive one!
