everyone's talking: Brigitte Bardot

This summer, everyone will be channeling Brigitte Bardot's iconic pin-up style swim suits on the beach. The fashion crowd has already picked up - this months vogue is filled with Bardot!

The classic look has many variations. Think: under wire bandeaus, prints, frilled bottoms, halter ties, bows and high waist bottoms to complete your look.

I've selected a couple of looks from Asos & Anthropologie because I think they have (hands down) the best selection (and most reliable quantity) of 50s and 60s style bathing suits, but keeping in mind we are in the 2000s they've made sure the pieces have a modern twist.

Asos: (links)

1: Top $45, Bottom $30 / 2: Full Piece $117 / 3: Top $27, Bottom $22

Floral prints are everywhere, but make sure to tone-down your bathing suit with a simple coloured cover up and a cute leather beach bag. We can always rely on Asos for the greatest floral prints and the free shipping doesn't hurt either!
Hint: though they are mostly available in + sizes, under wire bikini tops can make a small bust look more full too!

Anthropologie: (links)

1: Top $118, Bottom $118/ 2: Top $88, Bottom $98/ 3: Full Piece $144

Anthropoligie's collection is more subtle (and more pricey) with pastel colours, polka dots but the cuts are so interesting! They push the boundaries and knowing Anthropologie's typical selection they are probably quality pieces too. If you plan on going with pastel colours or solids definitely try and push the limit with ruffles, bows, high waist bottoms.

Lara Stone channels Brigitte Bardot in Vogue (April, 2011)

matching accessories: wooden clogs (70s), leather platform sandals (70s), braided hair, leather bracelets, solid sheer cover-ups, statement totes, big round sunglasses (50s & 60s), turbands

*high waist bottoms are more 40s but I think they go hand in hand with Brigitte's style. I draw inspiration for 40s style high waist bikini bottoms from the curve hugging full piece suits of the 50s.
